Three (3) times in the last week i have seen people lose data because they forgot or did not know that you have to branch catalog appliances before you modify them.
so in short..
if your appliance came from a catalog and has not been branched; the system assumes this is a disposable volume that can be destroyed and recreated without notice for any reason.
It will DELETE the volumes and copy the original class volumes and all of your changes will be lost.
it will do this 100% of the time on an upgrade.........

If you have any questions or are concerned about your appliances make sure you contact support BEFORE you do an upgrade (frankly even berfore an app restart) to make sure you are not going to lose your data.
