We're happy to announce that the CA AppLogic 3.1 release is now generally available to customers and partners.
The release contains significant hardware compatibility improvements, as well as a number of convenience improvements.
Improved hardware compatibility and hypervisor
Support for Cisco UCS hardware
AppLogic with Xen now uses the Linux 3.0.1 kernel and Xen 4.1.1 hypervisor (from 2.6.18 and 3.4, respectively)
AppLogic with VMware now works with the VMware ESX 4.1 hypervisor (from 4.0)
User features and improvements
Improved web browser compatibility, especially with MSIE 9, FF 7 and Chrome 15
RBAC: Support for adding users to groups as part of creating new users
RBAC: Support for "primary" groups
RBAC: Support for default ACL for new objects, assignable per user and/or per group
RBAC: Support for using an object's ACL as a template for setting another object's ACL
New option to list users who are currently logged in on the grid
Block-level copy can now be configured to be carried out by filer appliances (thus improving the responsiveness of the grid controller, especially with multiple concurrent users)
Added language support for Italian
Operator/maintainer features and improvements
BFC: Improved grid and server administration user interface
BFC: Improved BFC configuration/settings user interface
Grid-wide clock synchronization is now done over the backbone, using the BFC server as an ntp time source (requires that the BFC server is configured with ntp reference server)
BFC: IPMI support enhancements, including: global and per-device fixed user/password, and "lanplus" mode support
AppLogic/Xen now supports disk striping to improve performance on servers with multiple physical hard disks
AppLogic/VMware is no longer limited to 2 physical hard disks per server
Automatic scheduled backup of grid metadata to the BFC server (aids recovery in case of serious hardware failures or certain file system corruptions on the grid controller metadata volume)
BFC: Automatic database replica of the BFC database (aids recovery in case of database file corruption)
This version of AppLogic requires BFC to be upgraded before AppLogic 3.1 can be installed or upgraded to.
For more information on release 3.1 features and characteristics, as well as defects fixed and required hotfixes, please see the release notes at http://doc.3tera.com/AppLogic31/Release_Notes/index.htm. Please note that the release includes two mandatory hotfixes, hf6004 and hf6014, which should be installed on all 3.1 grids (just check the two hotfixes in BFC when installing or upgrading to 3.1). For up-to-date information on the hotfixes, please check the release notes; to receive notifications of new hotfixes and other alerts, please subscribe to the Announcements and News-and-Alerts forums.
Best regards and happy new 2012,
The AppLogic Team
P.S. The team dedicates this 3.1 release to the bright memory of Vladimir Miloushev (1961-2007): a friend, mentor, visionary and an extraordinary person. Those of us fortunate enough to have known him will carry his spirit with us always.
