A set of requested open source appliances focusing on high performance and scalability:
nginx - an http server and mail proxy server - http://nginx.net/
varnish - a high performance http acceletor - http://varnish.projects.linpro.no/
sequoia - a transparent middleware solution for offering clustering, load balancing and failover services for any database - http://sequoia.continuent.org/HomePage
Quite interesting, nginix is on my list of appliances to create at the moment. One appliance I do see missing from the catalog, is a mail appliance - not a biggie for us, as we've created our own Exim appliance, but I'm sure it'd help a lot of people.

Karl,
Agree, mail appliance(s) are on the most wanted list frequently. We just put in a postfix-based MTA but that's not yet productized for a release. Mail servers, like web servers, are quite nebulous in the wide variety of functions, so we need to nail down some specific functions to decide what appliances will be needed, so that we don't create one monstrous "mail" appliance that slices and dices.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Our Exim appliance is fairly specialised (although v. easily customised by dropping in a new exim.conf template) for spam filtering.

Howdy,
Sorry for bringing up an old thread, but any word on a mail appliance?
Thanks,
Adam
