Hello,

I am a newbie to 3tera AppLogic running Version 2.1.1.

I need some assistance on how to setup a cpanel template. Here are a few question I need some advice :

1. How can I add application IPs that show in dashboard.

currently it shows as :

Application IPs not assigned

2. I want to setup a plain centOS5 template ( which I will later call cpanel-CentOS template ) and then install cpanel and configure everything manually. I dont need anything like php/apache/mysql in the template, since a cpanel installation would meet those require ments.

How can I do this?

Once everything is installed i.e. cpanel and I configure the apache/php/mysql/security settings on the newly created ( node or vds, whatever you call ) , can I use this entire setup as a template, say "cpanel-CentOS template" , and then use this cpanel-CentOS template to create additional VDS ( virtual dedicated server ) with variable disk/cpu/mem resources ( meaning it will initially setup as the original values of cpanel-CentOS template, and then I will adjust the values)

3. Does applogic allow windows and linux OS to be installed simultaneously on the same grid?

Thanks

Hello, to answer your questions real quick:

1. You will need to contact your provider if the application IP's are not showing up properly in the dashboard(unless of course you have maintainer access, or access to the aldo)

2. You can create the template as you suggested by provisioning the CentOS 5 GSC template, then install cPanel, etc, then just turn the template switch on in the application configuration once you have it the way you like it.

3. The version of applogic you are running is not capable of running windows, although newer beta versions are currently implementing running windows in hvm (hardware virtualization machine) mode. I'm not exactly sure how long it would be before this would see a stable release, although 3tera probably has a good estimate.

Can the newer beta also run other O/S in a hvm? I'm thinking about BSD's.

Yes, although from what I understand, the performance for *BSD(in particular FreeBSD) is currently pretty lackluster.

Muppie,

The upcoming 2.4 beta of AppLogic supports creating appliances from ISO images, so, at least theoretically, you can create an appliance from any OS. There were some problems with the virtualization support for FreeBSD; I am not sure whether those are resolved yet -- but once the release comes out, we can test this.

In any case, as JeremyN mentioned, FreeBSD still doesn't have paravirtualization drivers, so disk and network I/O are not going to be very good. We're in touch with the people at FreeBSD who are working on these issues and as soon as more information or support is available, we will include it.

If you want to try *BSD when the 2.4 release comes out, let us know.

Best regards,
