View Full Version : Finally, a single set of PV drivers -- included in AppLogic 2.9.9

At various times, we had advised customers to obtain PV drivers from other vendors, especially for use in Microsoft Windows 2008 Server R2 64-bit appliances... This is no longer needed.
Starting with the AppLogic 2.9.9 release, the PV drivers that ship with AppLogic work in all cases and there is no need to use 3rd party PV drivers.
Specifically, the new version supports Windows Server 2003, 32-bit and 64-bit, as well as Windows Server 2008 32-bit and Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit).
If you have any questions, please post here or contact technical support.
Best regards,
- Peter

Hello,
This confused me alot, then I realized im working on a 2.9.3 grid.
Any help with download links for people that aren't at 2.9.9 yet?
Im trying to install Windows Server 2008 64bit R2
The documentation at http://doc.3tera.com/applogic29/RefWindowsInstallWin08.html
The TurboGate PV drivers version 2.0 can be used with 32-bit versions of Windows Server 2008, but do not work with 64-bit versions of Windows Server 2008. Version 3.0 of these drivers work with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows Server 2008.
Which also doesn't tell me how I would go about obtaining a copy of Version 3.0 of these drivers.

Apparently if you want 64 bit R2 you have to upgrade to 2.9.9
Also of note is if you do install the PV drivers, when you get to the diskpart step, a box will popup from windows asking you if you want to format your placeholder volumes, I selected yes and everything worked fine for me. This isn't in the docs, but hopefully it will help others.

Brian,
Yes, 2.9.9 is the first version that fully supports 64-bit Windows 2008, with updated PV drivers.
I'll pass your note for the placeholder volume... Was the placeholder volume already formatted (if it was, it should not have needed formatting)?
Best regards,

I'm not sure if this is related to the comment above relating to the Windows alert that pops up when bringing the additional volumes online, but I didn't click on the option to format the drives and did it through the command prompt as the documentation states. After installing the TurboGate drivers, restarting and then reaching the point in the documentation which states to check that the disks are online, I noticed that they weren't. This has happened a couple of times to me and what results is that in the future if I try and add a placeholder volume (as you do when creating an SQL Server) it comes up as read only when you start the appliance. So what I had to do, after bringing the disks online, was to use diskpart to clear the read only attribute from the disk and now they work as normal.
As I said, I'm not sure if formatting from the Windows prompt avoids this, or if I've missed something in the installation, but this solution worked for me.
