Will windows server 2008 and sql server 2008 work on applogic 2.4? are there any special considerations in order for these to work properly?

Thanks.

Freedman,

Windows Server 2008 works in the lab with some limitations; it is not officially supported yet. Compared to Windows Server 2003:
- there is no filer for managing offline Win2008 NTFS volumes
- the PV drivers for 64-bit 2008 server are not yet signed (our provider is working on this)

SQL Server 2008 is fully supported -- see http://doc.3tera.com/AppLogic27/CatDatabaseAppliancesSQL.html

BTW, 64-bit Windows 2003 Server is supported in 2.7

How soon until we can see a Windows Server 2008 with IIS 7.0? As we all know, Microsoft has always been behind in the race for a great web server. IIS 7.0 is such a huge improvement over IIS 6.0. Caching, and compression are finally done nearly correctly. Would be nice to see server 2008 make it in sooner rather than later. It is 2010 now! :)

Chris,

We're reviewing this. Limited operation with 32-bit Windows 2008 server should be possible now (it is not officially supported but it should work); the 64-bit needs special PV drivers for proper I/O performance. For full support, we expect to have it within 2-3 months.

If IIS 7 is a must have now and you would be willing to go through some setup and testing, I think you can run 32-bit W2K8 today; I would recommend keeping the content either on NAS or on an application volume which is NTFS03 (so you will have all filer operations available on it), while the appliance boot volume will probably have to be W2K8's native NTFS08.

Peter,

We are looking at the possibility of implementing AppLogic over the next few months. Windows 2008 R2 would be a must for us as we plan on migrating over from Windows 2003.

R2 is only available in 64 bit editions so having it tested and working would be a bit plus and thumbs up to AppLogic.

Many thanks,
Paul

Paul,

We're working on this; to a large degree it depends on being able to get signed PV drivers, as Windows 2008 64-bit does not allow non-signed drivers (you need to confirm them interactively on every boot, which is not really acceptable). We expect those around March and I hope they will be on time for your project. Let me know if you are interested in beta-testing them as soon as they become available.

Best regards,

Thank you for the update Peter. We have been talking to Sean and Jeremy about what we will need and we are getting an NDA over to you tomorrow so we can go into further details with them.

Many thanks,
Paul

Hello,

I know this thread is older...

But I just wanted to make sure everyone is aware that Windows 2008 R2 (32 and 64 bit) is fully supported in the 2.9 release.

Jessie
